The final question that needed answering was: what am I going to do about buying a new air conditioner? Should I wait till this old unit breaks down or should I just upgrade now? The decision to replace our worn out air conditioner belonged to my wife. She is the family member that monitors and pays the utility bills. Her knowing our air conditioner was using more electricity than it should bugged her like a pebble in your shoe. First we discussed what we had now and compared it to what was available now when it came to energy efficiency and price.
High Efficiency Vs. Standard Efficiency
We built our home in 1996 when the building boom was starting in our town. We upgraded everything in the house from the original specs. Things like hardwood floors instead carpet, high R VALUE windows instead of the standard windows everyone else seemed to be buying were just a couple of the upgrades we made. But, when it came to the furnace and air conditioner, my wife wanted the standard system everyone else had and I wanted high tech. I won that battle, and we ended up with a 90+ AFUE furnace and a 12 SEER air conditioner. Her dad kept telling her that the new more efficient heating systems wouldn’t last as long, and that we would have nothing but maintenance problems. He was wrong. For 15 years we never had a break down. The unit is still working to this day, but it is not working as efficiently as it should.
Go High Tech or Go Home!
The air conditioners on the market today range from the standard 13 SEER unit all the way up to a 20 SEER air conditioner. She chose the more energy efficient system because she had seen first hand how much we had saved on energy throughout the years by comparison to our neighbors and their less efficient systems. She finally started seeing things my way. High-tech systems are now common place in the HVAC market. The decision was made to buy a 20 SEER air conditioner. After she told me what air conditioner she wanted I informed her that it wouldn’t work up to its full potential with out upgrading our furnace to a 98% efficient variable speed furnace too.
My Dream HVAC System from Four Seasons
She didn’t bat when eye and said “yes” to my dream furnace. I’ve wanted this new furnace LENNOX came out with ever since I went to school to learn about it. It’s a dream come true for a service technician to have the top of the line furnace and air conditioner in their own home. I am having Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning install these systems within the next few days, and I cannot wait for the comfort and savings that these new units will bring.
